Research material used in the course will be selected by the students and relevant to their individual research projects. In the first part of the course students will select a published research article most relevant to their own research project and explain the principal biomedical processes being reported on in that paper. Students will write critiques of the research articles summarizing the findings and highlighting the weaknesses of the research papers with particular emphasis on issues regarding the findings and interpretations reported in the publication. The critical thinking skills refined in the first part of this course are elaborated on in the second part of the course where students will generate a manuscript draft of their own research projects focusing on the essential elements of each major section that prise a classic research article. Detailed feedback on students' writing assignments and oral presentations is provided throughout the course so students can actively improve their writing and oral skills. The final student-generated products a manuscript draft and a research project presentation, help the students with their graduate studies. Hopefully, the manuscript draft will be near ready for submission and may also be a major ponent of a student's research thesis.
